There are a few things that just go together. Bonnie and Clyde. Peanut butter and jelly. Starsky and Hutch. Apple pie and vanilla ice cream. But while we love these combos just as much as the next person, we think it’s time to create a few classic combinations of our own. Some flavors just go better with creamy, sweet ice cream by their side. Here are a few of our other favorite a la mode desserts:
Popular at Thai restaurants, fried banana is a delicious dish that’s best served with ice cream. But you don’t have to go out for this dessert — it can be made at home pretty easily! All you need are fresh, ripe bananas, store-bought egg roll wrappers (from the refrigerated section), vanilla ice cream (or banana ice cream if you want to really pack on the tropical, fruity flavor), and some people top it all off with chocolate sauce.
Wrap your bananas in the egg roll wrappers, seal them, and fry them for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. You can also substitute light, fluffy crepes into the mix for a different spin. Serve a la mode and voila! You’ve got a delicious dish everyone in the family will want a piece of.
As the story goes, ice cream cones were first invented when an ice cream street vendor ran out of bowls to serve his frozen treat. He teamed up with a nearby waffle seller and the ice cream cone was born! People loved the idea, because it meant they could eat the tasty bowl. And, while we love a classic waffle cone, a warm, fluffy waffle topped with ice cream makes for an amazing treat!
Best of all, you don’t have to use simple waffle batter. You can press cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, or other sweet pastries in your waffle iron to make the perfect edible vessel for your ice cream.
OK, so this one’s not exactly novel. Birthday cake and ice cream are as old as time – but that doesn’t mean we’re going to pass up the opportunity to celebrate this dynamic duo. Whether paired via an all-in-one gourmet ice cream cake or you choose to mix your own flavors based on the notes each one adds to the combo, cake and ice cream are a go-to, must-have at any big celebration.
Of course, all of these recipes for culinary nirvana rely on having the right ice cream. Something made fresh daily — not sourced from a 6-month-old box in the back of the freezer. An ice cream that’s full of rich flavor, made with fresh ingredients and mix-ins — not weird additives. That’s where Cold Stone Creamery comes in.
