Now is the perfect time to discover and enjoy events and happenings that South Florida has to offer. Here are six ways to enjoy the summer in South Florida.
1. Go for a boat ride down the Intracoastal
What better way to celebrate summertime than to explore the beautiful homes in the city known as the Venice of America? Water Taxi has a variety of vessels available for public and private charters. Whether you want a private ride to take your party from one location to another, or you want to spend the afternoon or evening sightseeing on the Intracoastal, Water Taxi has you covered. 2. Enjoy Free Concerts
South Florida loves summertime, and many communities offer free concerts regularly. Many of these are outdoors, so put on a tank top, pack a picnic, and enjoy the outdoors with your friends, while listening to a free concert. Use sunny.org to search for events in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
3. Shop Local
It’s the best time of year for fresh fruits and vegetables, and with a farmer’s market, you can get them straight from the source. There are pop up farmer’s markets every weekend, make sure to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies. You’ll most likely find lots of foods you couldn’t find in your local grocery store, as well as freshly baked bread and other treats.
4. Learn to Ride the Waves
Ever wondered if you’d be a great surfer? Now is the perfect time to find out! Take an afternoon of surf or paddle boarding lessons to learn the basics and get going – there are plenty of businesses near the beach that offer both lessons and board rentals. If you’re not feeling particularly coordinated, there are other great ways to ride the waves. Rent a jet ski and embrace the ocean at high speeds, or take it all in from a different perspective and go parasailing.
5. Take in Florida’s Nature
Florida has over 150 state parks, full of recreational activities. Learn about the natural habitats found in Florida and go on hikes, canoe or kayak. If you visit the Everglades, you can discover one of the most unique ecosystems in America, go for airboat rides through the waterways and step right into the habitat of endangered species including the Florida panther, manatee and American crocodile.
