When it comes to your wedding day, planning can become a full-time job. There are so many little details that help make your perfect day, especially when you want to make your wedding unique from the others. You try to find different games and decorations that fit you, while also involving the rest of the party. Here are a few ideas that will get all the guests involved and keep them talking about after the “I do’s.”
The shoe game
Have you ever seen photos of a bride and groom sitting with their backs facing one another and their shoes in the air? They haven’t had too much to drink – they’re playing the shoe game!
During your reception, place two chairs back-to-back on the dance floor and have the bride and groom sit down, removing their shoes. The bride and groom should have one of each pair of shoes.
A designated person (usually the DJ) ask a series of questions about the couple’s relationship such as “Who wears the pants in the relationship?” and “Who is the dirtiest roommate?”
After each question, the bride and groom holds up the shoe of the person they think is the best answer to the question. This game doesn’t require many moving parts or added cost and is entertaining for the whole party as everyone gets to learn about the couple’s relationship and how well they know one another. Check out more question options here.
Giant sized games
If you’re having an outdoor wedding reception, adding giant-sized games to the party will get adults acting like children in an instant. Giant Jenga, chess, checkers or corn hole provides some added-entertainment and is a great ice-breaking opportunity for your guests.
Another fun way to get creative at your wedding reception is with the guest-sign in.
Use a globe: For couples that love traveling, have guests sign a globe by where they are from, love to travel to or think the newlyweds should visit on future vacations.
Notecards: This is a fun way to get feedback from your guests. Guests can pick a category they think they have the best advice about (having a baby, on your honeymoon, after a fight, new recipes, etc.) and leave the newlyweds a message. Throughout your marriage, anytime you feel you need advice, you can go through your notecards and take your pick. This system can double as home décor as well.
Weddings are great for adults, but children often don’t know what to do, where to go or what to eat. They’re too young for champagne, might be nervous on the dance floor and probably don’t want to eat the chicken or the fish. Some ways to get the kids enjoying the party is with an old-fashioned soda bar or maybe even a Popsicle bar with otter pops and bubbly to cool down a summer wedding.
